Biography of Presenter: Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche
Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche has been officially acknowledged by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa as the lineage holder of the Shangpa Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism.
Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche is the reincarnation of Kyabje Dorje Chang Kalu
Rinpoché (1905-1989), recognized as a young child by the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa and also confirmed by H.H. the Dalai Lama, Chatral Rinpoche and H.H. Sakya Trizin Rinpoche. The previous Kalu Rinpoche was a revered meditation master who brought the profound Vajrayana teachings of the Shangpa Kagyu lineage to the West almost 50 years ago. He founded Kagyu Thegchen Ling in Honolulu, in 1974.
Kalu Rinpoche continues his predecessor’s prolific dharma activity giving teachings at his own centers that span the continents as well as other institutions. Last year, he gave talks at the Oxford Union and The Buddhist Society in London; he has received an invitation to speak at Harvard in 2022. With an open and engaging style, Kalu Rinpoche, at age 31, is a modern meditation master connecting a new generation to the timeless dharma, bringing it fully into the 21st century.
